The path is very flat, made of small loose stone, so it is perfect for pushchairs, wheelchairs, scooters, and bikes. However its also good for remote-controlled cars. My husband got one for his birthday, so we brought it along, and it was a fab place to drive it.
Wheelock Trail is 2.5km long, with it being a there and back route you can just walk as far as you would like and turn back for a shorter walk.
With it being an old rail way line, it is nice and wide at 3 meters wide, so it's easy to pass people going the opposite way. It is traffic free, so it's super safe and perfect for learning to ride a bike.
There are a few benches along the path, and you pass under a couple of interesting bridges along the way.
At one point, you have to cross over the main duel carriage way. There are large gates before getting to the road ,but do be careful crossing as this is a fast road. We walked up to here and turned back for a 3km walk.
Here is some history of the trail.
After the railway closed in 1966 the track lay derelict for many years, gradually becoming more and more overgrown. Cheshire County Council worked closely with the local community through the Wheelock Rail Trail Association to develop the track into a multi-user trail and the route is now a high-quality facility for walkers, cyclists and horseriders alike. The Trail forms part of Route 5 of the National Cycle Network, linking Middlewich with Alsager.
There are a few bridges to pass under along the route, this adds interest to the walk and also a good thing to encourage children to walk to if they can see them in the distance.
