Walton Gardens is one of those places which is always on my go to list when I suddenly draw a blank of where to take the girls. You dont need to pre plan a trip to Walton Gardens as its free but there is still plenty to do there. On a sunny day we normally head over for the girls to have a play on the playground, have a little wonder through the zoo, get a little walk in around the pretty gardens and then sit and enjoy a picnic on the grass and buy an ice cream. The only things i have to spend money on is parking and the ice creams making it a really cheap day out.
Children's Zoo
The zoo includes animals such as goats, donkeys, pigs, rabbits and its fabulous peacocks, who casually walk along the paths with you displaying their feathers. Meet the three alpacas - Jim, Mally and Topaz. They even do events where you can walk with an alpaca.
There are some colourful birds in the averies and if you are lucky you may spot a red squirrels. The zoo is open daily, including bank holidays, from 10.30am to 5pm.
Walk an alpaca and join Mally, Jim and Topaz, our three amigos on these ever popular alpaca walks. Take in our beautiful Cheshire estate, while enjoying the company of our beautiful alpaca.
Walk an Alpaca
Walk an alpaca with Mally, Jim and Topaz, on their ever popular alpaca walks. Take in the beautiful Cheshire estate, while enjoying the company of the beautiful alpaca. It starts off with a brief talk about alpaca’s. The rangers will then demonstrate how to catch the alpaca and then you’ll take them on a walk around the park with opportunities for photographs!
Children's Playground
Next to the zoo is the children's playground, featuring all kinds of equipment. There is plenty to play on for toddlers all the way up to 12 years old. There is a large climbing frame with spiral tunnel slide, musical instruments, seesaws and it was great to see a wheelchair accessible roundabout.
Gardens and Woodland
These are some really pretty gardens, especially in the height of summer. Walton Hall is a wedding venue to the gardens are used as a backdrop for wedding photos so are of course always kept very tidy and full of colour.
The formal gardens have been in existence since Lady Daresbury first created them for her award-winning blooms. And not much has changed, thanks to the hard work of our grounds staff. Whenever you visit, they’re still an utter delight, changing dramatically with every season.
Lady Daresbury helped shape the formal gardens at Walton Hall Estate between 1900 and 1930, with chrysanthemums being a particular favourite. However, her real pride and joy were her extraordinary collection of rhododendrons. They were so spectacular that many considered them to be one of the finest in the north of England. Even today, they are a beautiful sight for the eyes.
Rhododendrons grow very slowly so when you find big examples like at Walton Gardens you know they have been there for years and years.
If you want to add extra adventures to your day at a cost there's adventure golf, pitch 'n' putt and bowls. It's also home to Jungle Parc which a high ropes course with wobbly bridges, rocket zips, Tarzan swings and more.

Jungle Parc High Ropes
We have done the course at Jungle Parc last year. It is a great one for younger children as there is a low level course for them to get used to the harness and clip but still loads of fun with a rocket ship zip line. Suitable for children from 3+ (minimum height 1.05m), adults are allowed on the course to climb with younger children making this a truly family experience.
