Walk from Quarry Bank to Carrs Park in Wilmslow
A lovely family friendly walk along the river, starting at the National Trust Quarry Bank and following the River Bollin to the Carrs Park in Wilmslow.
The Carrs is a huge, 71 acre park in Wilmslow, Cheshire. It has lots of walking paths, as well as large open grass areas for a kick about. There’s a playground area for the kids and it’s only a 10 min walk into the centre of Wilmslow if you want to get lunch. In the park is Cafe Azul serving takeaway sandwiches, drinks and cakes and there is normally an ice cream van at weekend serving up super sundaes.

There is also the small free car park by Twinnies Bridge at one end of Carrs Park and a Pay and Display car park next to the playground at the other end.
Walk from the car park, down to the National Trust site with the Mill of Quarry Bank. Here you can visit their cafe, ice cream shop or toilets before heading on your walk. If you are a National Trust member you can also visit the gardens or mill for free, for non members there is a cost to visit these but the other facilities are free to use.
It is 3km to Carrs Park. It is a really easy route to follow, with nice flat paths.
• At the small play area at Quarry Bank you go past the equipment to the end where there is a gate. (Don't go along the path to the waterfall which is in front of the play area)
• Through this gate you find your self on a trail path which takes you through woodland, following the line of the River Bollin.
• After about 1 km there is a fork in the path. Take the path on the right which keeps you next to the River Bollin
•Cross over Heron's Pool Bridge and keep going through the wood.
• At the end of this path you walk past a National Trust sign for Styal and a black gate in front of you with a T junction. Follow the sign post to 'The Carrs' which is taking the right hand path.
• Walk over the wooden bridge, and through a car park off Styal Road. This is a good place to park if you want to visit Carrs Park with out the walk.
• Head over a lovely brick bridge ( Twinnies Bridge) with the River Bollin below and turn left signposted "Town Centre via The Carrs"
• Now out of the woods, you will find your self walking along a scenic path with lots of grassy fields with trees on the right and the River Bollin on your left.
• In the Summer the river is fantastic for kids to play in, it is shallow but stony so remember some beach shoes.
• At the next junction, cross over the bridge on the left-hand side.
• Keep going along the path to eventually find the children' playground. The first is a small area of wooden equipment like an assault course.
• The next play area has plenty of exercise equipment and a free tennis court.
• Finally the main play area has all the classic stuff including zip wire, obstacle course, roundabout and swings, climbing frame and slide.
•The route is very suitable for pushchairs, bikes and scooters.
Food and Drink
Right next to the playground there is a small takeaway cafe, Cafe Azul. It sells sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and has a lovely selection of cakes.
At weekends there is normally an ice cream van which does some really yummy sundae flavours.
The park is just a few minutes walk from the centre of Wilmslow too so you can walk to find a cafe or pub for spot of lunch.
