This 7.5km circular walk is one of our favourites. As you walk around the reservoir you walk near the waterside and along woodland trails with views of Hen Cloud and The Roaches. It is an interesting walk as the landscape changes through out the walk. It is also easy to navigate as you just follow the clearly marked signs and walk around the edge of the water.
The walk starts at the car park of the visitors centre which also has the Waterside Restaurant, a small gift shop which also sells takeaway cakes and Snugburys ice creams, picnic area and toilets.
Children's Play Area
There is a large children's playground on the site suitable for mixed ages and has been recently added to. It has some great play equipment including a massive climbing frame with spiral slide. They have also made the play area with wheelchair inclusive access and activities in mind.
Ice Cream Kiosk
Just by the play area is an ice cream kiosk which has a lovely range of ice creams and drinks. This saves you walking back to the restaurant for a coffee while the kids play.
The Walk
The walk has some challenges in parts where you will need to negotiate several flights of steps, a few bridges, a few sections of wooden boardwalks and a gate but this also what makes it interesting and has always been a walk my daughter enjoys even when she doesn't like other walks.
The promise of a play on the play area after the walk or lunch or a treat from the restaurant definitely helps the walk too.
Towards the start of the walk are some activities and games for children to have a go on. a marble maze, balance beams and a steady hand challenge. As you walk on from the games you cross a couple of bridges over a lovely little stream and head around the reservoir while being surrounded by lovely country side and amazing views of the Peak District.
The wooden signs along the path are clearly marked with a colour of the path you are walking. There aren't that many times you can take a wrong turn anyway as it is a clear and obvious path around the water. Some time you cant see the water as you head into the woodland more but this is also a lovely setting and a pleasant place to walk.
As you come towards the end of the walk around the reservoir you pass the Watersports Centre where you can watch people having fun on the late on paddleboards and canoes. Finally you come to he main road where you turn right and walk along the road for only a short distance before you come to the entrance of Tittesworth where you drove in.
Now it is time for a play on the children's play area or a nice coffee and sit down at the restaurant.
If you have young children or just not after a big walk there are a few other routes walking along part of the water and through the woodland.
Here are the walking routes available.
