Their afternoon tea was what we had our eyes set on for a Friday afternoon treat after a leisurely walk along the Lymm Railway first. We pre booked online and were pleased we did as the lovely little cafe was already busy with small groups of ladies and families having a spot of lunch.
The afternoon tea is £15 per person (April 24) and includes all these homemade delights:
🥪 Finger sandwiches of ham & tomato and cheese & cucumber.
🍓 Scone already made up with jam and thick cream
🍪 Homemade Lemon Tart, Flapjack and Yorkshire Tea Loaf
🫖 Tea or coffee
What a wonderful afternoon tea it was. Simple but yummy sandwiches with plenty of filling. The scones were to die for and that sweetened cream was heavenly. It was so nice to have different cake options that the usual you find on an afternoon tea. The lemon tart was a real game changer and I loved it. The tea loaf was light while being loaded with succulent raisins and the chewy flapjack was the perfect finish.
⭐After visiting on Friday for their Afternoon Tea with my sister in law, I had to go back to try out their lunch menu with my husband and daughter. We did a lovely Sunday walk along the Transpennine Trail to The Dunham Barn, although we walked back to the car a different way this time along the canal which made it even more picturesque.
For Lunch we ordered:
Chicken, Bacon and Mayo Ciabatta - Oh my word, this bread was gorgeous. You could tell it was from a proper bakery, so fresh and had that slight crisp as you took a bite. This lead to me and my husband discussing that we need to get our bread from a bakery in the future!
It was served with a beautifully dressed salad, crisps and a homemade coleslaw.
Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough Toast - A simple dish, but again lovely. The sourdough toast made this stand out. Really crispy and complimented the softness of the eggs.
Baked Beans on Sourdough Toast - As there isn't a children's menu, my daughter ordered this beans on toast, to be fair this is a great meal for her and she enjoyed the watercress on the top.
All in all, The Dunham Barn impressed me with their food. Not overly complicated but done very well and using local, high quality produce.
The Dunham Barn proudly serve fresh, local produce. Including their very own Apple Juice.
Most of their cakes are made in house except
The gluten free where they get from the 100% Gluten Free deli is Altrincham called "off the wheaten track".
They strive to serve the finest, fresh, and ethically sourced local produce, to provide us, the customer with the most delicious food in the area.
Their Breakfast and lunch Menu had some really interesting items on such as "Dunham Massey Ale Rarebit" or a plant based Cumberland sausage with pesto mayo and sundried tomato sandwich. They have weekly specials too which included a homemade cheese and onion pie, a roast beef and onion ciabatta and a chicken curry.
It is in the perfect location to call into while walking along the Lymm Railway section of the Transpennine Trail after a visit the the National Trust site next door, while on a bike ride or walking the dog.
The tranquil setting is lovely for a leisurely lunch with a friend or a quick coffee stop. Outside the cafe is a cluster of outside seating where you can sit and enjoy the spring air of Dunham Massey.
Outside there is "the little barn" which is used during busy summer months and when they hold extra events it sells takeaway drinks, cake and ice cream from Cheshire farm ice cream.
One of their most popular events is their fantastic Fish and Chip Friday every week 430-730 pm
