The Crocky Trail is a perfect day for any active child (or adult). The mile long adventure trail around a massive field is filled with multiple thing to stop and play on. From rope swings, 4 in a row basket ball games, shakey rope bridges, balancing beams over the stream, a prison which is perfect for trapping your dad in, to loads of different types of swings and just general running and balancing fun.
As you work your way back to the start there is a great collection of slides, starting off with "The little one" which is still about 10 foot high, building up to bigger slides and massive drop slides with famous "flusher" and Titanic slide. Some of them were so large you could see the children plucking up courage at the top to push off the edge, then all you could hear was screams and laugher as they slid down and got wet bums from the bottom.
There are plenty of original games and activities at the main section at the entrance including penalty shoot out and other football skilled games, 4 in a row basket ball, balancing bridges, a massive spinning wheel, spinning tunnels to run through and a baseball game. The smaller spinning wheel was the first ride we went on and had my girls on fits of laughter as they tried to stay on while to span round only to fail and slip right off into the crash mats.
Under 5s Section
Under 5s are free to come to The Crocky Trail, but there is actually quite a bit they can go on. There is an under 5s section with lots of water play equipment, with pumps and wheels to turn and make the water flow in different ways. You will also find a wooden bridge to climb on, a crocodile slide where you slide down his tongue! And a cute inflatable bouncy castle too.
Food at The Crocky Trail
There is also an opportunity to grab a snack and drink in the Crocky shop and refuel after your day of fun. The cafe serves hot food like burgers, woodfired pizza, chips, jackets and I found them to be reasonably priced. You can get hot and cold drinks, cakes and there is a massive selection of Kelly's ice creams available. 20 flavours even. Plus there is a great new ordering system where you order on a computer screen so you have time to look at the flavours and you don't feel rushed when there is a queue behind you.
We normally take a picnic but on one of our many visits we wanted to try the cafe. Between 2 adults and 4 children, we ordered 3 of their 10-inch pizzas and a jacket potato. The pizzas are freshly made in the cafe using a pizza oven, and I was so impressed that from ordering to having them on our table was less than 10mins.
We felt that having half a pizza was the equivalent to having a sandwich, so we still did have some extras with it that we brought from home. It was definitely a nice treat and a change to a semi warm sandwich from my bag.
Arriving for when a place opens is my Number 1 tip for days out. We got to The Crocky Trail at 10am and were the first ones in which resulted in us practically having the place to ourselves for the first hour, but even as the day went on it never got too busy so October Half Term seems a great time of year to visit. It was a dry but chilly day, we wore good solid shoes incase there were muddy patches and wore layers for when the sun came out.
One thing "The Crocky Trail" does well is the amount of seating, there is lots of picnic benches and tables by the cafe for eating your bought food or you can bring your own picnic too. Plus along the trail there is covered seating at each activity you stop at. Perfect for parents while the kids play.
There are no toilets on the actual trail so make sure you use the ones by the entrance before you set off as the trail took us about an hour to do.
What Crocky Trail has to offer:
Lots of different ways to cross the Crocky stream with scary wobbly bridges, a swinging chain bridge and a fallen log.
Mazes suitable for all the family
Jailhouse for naughty dads
Lots of great slides from giant drop slides to smaller ones for younger kids
So many rides to have fun on. Most are task based so consist of either staying on them while they spin round, jumping over things, or climbing up things.
For any football, basketball or cricket fans the Crocky Trail is perfect
Under 5s play area
Visiting the Crocky Trail is one of our favourite days out, whether it's a spring, summer or autumn visit. We love going as a family or with school friends.
Make sure it's on your list to visit this year.
