Shanklin Chine - Isle of Wight
Shanklin Chine - Isle of Wight

Shanklin Chine in the Isle of Wight is one of the islands oldest attractions at over 200 years old. With its natural beauty and great views over the Fisherman's cottage it is a must for visitors. Especially as you can re visit as many times as you want with in 7 days. Including in the evening when the lights are turned on and the chine becomes even more magical.

The crooked steps, windy tree lined paths, streams, waterfalls and wooden bridges make Shanklin Chine an intriguing yet tranquil place to visit. You can enter at the top of the slope behind the fisherman's cottage pub or there is an entrance from the old town.

We walked up and down the Chine to get from the seafront to the old town. There are other ways to get up into the old town but going through the Chine is really lovely and if you have a 7 day pass you may as well make the most of it. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to walk all the way through.

There are steps so it isn't suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

There are also a few Dinosaurs to spot and some large Dino Eggs so it is really child friendly.

The Chine at Night

The illuminating lights turn on at duck with last entry at 8.30pm. This is truly breathtaking, so much so i went twice in the evening during our weeks stay in Shanklin. There are lit up lamp posts along the paths and then a beautiful array of coloured lights shining up on the bridges, plants and the waterfall which make the natural features really stand out and look even more impressive.

There is no need to pre book and once you have bought your ticket you can re visit as many times as you want for 7 days. A family ticket of 2 adults and 2 children is £29.00

At the bottom of the Chine you will find the most gorgeous pub. It is literally sat on the beach. It is a cosy pub serving homemade food which is lovely. Plenty of seafood options as well as burgers, pasta and a children's menu. The outdoor seating is perfect for a drink while watching the waves. Check out the Fisherman's Cottage website for more details. Fisherman's Cottage - Shanklin Chine
