The reserve is roughly triangular in shape and the path is nice and flat with a good surface so great for pushchairs and scooters. It is a 1.4 kilometer walk around which is an easy one for all ages and takes no more than half an hour.
The pretty woodland around the lake’s edge provides a welcome home to a variety of wildlife including birds and plants, dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies. You will always spot birds on the water too. With Mallards, ducks and swans.
There is one down side to Shakerley Mere, which is how close it is to the M6 Motorway. There is a constant whizz of cars zooming by on the other side of the trees which rather spoils the calm and tranquil setting.
But this aside it is a lovely place for a quick stroll to catch with with friends or get some fresh air and exercise. We visited in October and the trees were turning those beautiful autumn colours and we even spotted some fungi growing.
