Climbing Walls at Rock Up Manchester
Testing out her bravery

Rock Up is a unique indoor fun climbing arena where the whole family can enjoy some healthy, action-packed fun! Brightly coloured walls with crazy and interesting themes make each wall different. With the addition of a rope course makes Rock Up stand out compared to other indoor climbing centers. It is a great indoor/wet weather activity for the whole family.

We were invited to come and check out Rock Up in Manchester over the Easter Holidays. As the weather was rather wet and as the girls never turn down a climbing challenge this was the perfect afternoon activity.

Rock Up Manchester Safety Briefing
Getting harnessed up & Safety Briefing

Safety Briefing

Of course, all their climbing session starts with a safety briefing and time to get kitted out with your harness. Rock up allows 30minutes for this which is great as then you get a full 60 minutes having fun climbing. In the briefing room we all watched a 6 minute video and got asked questions at the end to make sure we knew the rules. Parents need to watch the video too to be allowed in the climbing wall area. You can assist your child clipping on and off the wall and help with encouragement if needed. No phones are allowed in the area but you can nip out of the arena to take photos and videos.

Lets Get Climbing

The girls literally went running in. So by the time i had walked down the stairs and got on my blue safety jacket on they were already half way up their first wall.

The 27 walls are all different, making each climb fun, interesting and a new challenge. My girls love climbing centers so it was great to find a new place to test their ability and strength. My 12 year old is getting very confident now and flew up the walls, she would easily clip her self in too. My 9 year old is getting better but takes her time more, checking her route and footing more carefully and she just needed a bit of help with her clip some times.

I nipped out of the arena a quite a few times to get photos of the girls. This was really easy to do and i could even go up stairs to see which got you a great view when they were at the top of some of the walls as you were level with them. This was also great for watching them on the High Ropes.

High Rope Course

The High Ropes Challenge at Rock Up definitely adds a whole new level of adrenaline and adventure in your session. You can have as many goes on this during your session. My girls had two goes. A member of staff clips you in and off you go. This looked seriously scary but the girls took it in their stride. Balancing on beams 8 meters above the cafe! There is beams, nets, ropes to shimmy along and even a zip wire.

Stairway to Heaven

This is another great challenger. It is a spiral of columns you have to climb up. Each one gets higher until your at the very highest one where you have to pluck up courage to step off to get down. Again my girls have a couple of goes each on this. My eldest found this easy due to her having long legs and was able to easily step from one column to the next. Although I'm not sure where shes got her bravery from as its definitely not from me!

My youngest made her way up a bit more on her knees, but still managed to get to the top and was so pleased with her self. It really gave her a confidence boost and made her feel proud.

The Benefits of Climbing

Climbing promotes physical fitness, builds resilience, and develops self-confidence in young individuals. This is definitely true, my girls were on cloud 9 after their session, but also really tired. They had really challenged themselves physically and mentally. So a snack from the cafe was well needed and deserved.

Soft Play

Their Soft Play area is built over two stories, so your little ones have plenty of space to play. It is great for the little ones who are not ready for the climbing walls just yet but still have lots of energy and love to have fun!

These sessions which are perfect for little climbers up to 5 years of age. It includes some time in the climbing arena where your little explorer can scale the climbing walls at their own pace. It is a great way to give them a go when nothing is expected but you might be surprised how far they can get! The harness can make them feel extra safe to climb that bit higher.

Lights Out Climbing

Every Thursday evening Rock Up turn the lights off, turn the music up & get the disco lights & wall lights beaming.

This sounds so cool and unique and i know my children would love this as it would make the climbing challenge even harder and would be perfect for a different kind of night out. Every Thursday during term-time.
