RHS Bridgewater Gardens is a fantastic day out for all the family. The gardens always wow me with the amount colours bursting from the flower beds and there is plenty to explore weather you are a gardening enthusiast or just someone who enjoys spending time outside. One of my favourite areas that you might enjoy are the Chinese Streamside gardens which is full of twisting paths and beautiful bridges. You can also walk around the lake, and the highlight of the gardens for kids is the woodland play area.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has transformed the former grounds of Worsley New Hall in Salford into a stunning new 154-acre garden. The site, which was once home to the third Duke of Bridgewater, and adjoins the historic Bridgewater Canal, is a beautiful green space for the local community and visitors to enjoy all year-round. With multiple garden areas to explore, a number of cafes, children's woodland play area and extra activities during the school holidays for children it makes RHS Bridgewater a great family day out.

RHS Bridgewater Gardens is a fantastic day out

RHS Bridgewater is such a big site you can easily spend 4/5 hours exploring. The gardens are split up into different areas. They have a welcome garden, the beautiful walled gardens, kitchen garden and community garden where students come and spent time developing areas.

Start and finish your day

Sitting in the south-west corner of RHS Garden Bridgewater, is the Welcome Building with a large arrivals hall, shop, café and two dedicated classrooms, as well as offering spectacular views over Moon Bridge Water with outdoor seating by the cafe. The gift shop offers a range of souvenirs, books, and gardening tools, and the cafe serves freshly prepared food and drinks.

Chinese Streamside Garden is beautiful

Chinese Streamside Garden

The Music Pavilion is a remarkable structure situated in the Chinese Streamside Garden. It features classical Chinese architectural design and authentic construction, serving as a breathtaking centre piece. It is surrounded by a meandering stream with tradition Chinese bridges and an abundance of Chinese plants such as my personal favourite the Acer. I personally love this part of the garden and so peaceful to walk around with the trickling stream,.

Within the all the many areas of the gardens there are always so many interesting & different plants on display and how ever long you spend walking around you will always notice something new growing. As well as the gardens there is plenty of open space to explore in woodland and a nice walk around Ellesmere Lake.

Wooden Play Area

The wooden play area has a low ropes course among the sycamores, a hide-and-seek trail around the rhododendrons and massive beech trees, to spider-web nets, basket swings and clambering frames, as well as den building and a bog garden for a spot of pond dipping.

With younger children's swings, fairy houses, hammocks, climbing frames and storytelling area, this is an ideal place for young children to explore, play and have fun.

Extra Activities in School Holidays

RHS Bridgewater put on some lovely extra activities on during the school holidays. During our May visit there was a superhero fruit & veg trail, smoothie making & craft sessions plus a cute theatre show. At Easter they had a wonderful Easter Egg trail, in summer there was planting and gardening activities and at Halloween there is sure to be a spooky trail around the gardens and plenty more seasonal activities.

Annual Pass

We loved it so much we upgraded our tickets to become RHS members which we have already got our moneys worth with just two visits. A RHS membership also gets you in to lots of partner gardens which are all over the Northwest and we have some great ones in Cheshire including Arley Hall & Gardens, Abbeywood Estate and Cholmondeley Castle Gardens.
