Rainy Day Activities in Cheshire


It is always harder thinking of something to do when its raining outside. It normally takes more pre planning as things need to be booked and of course inside things usually have a cost to them. I'm a big fan of annual passes as these usually save you money in the long run as long as you go a few times in the 12 months. Here are some of our favourite days out for wet or cold weather.


These places are in Cheshire or a bit beyond.


I have done a brief description of each place but if you would like to know more click on the picture to take you to my full review. (if no picture then review is coming soon)




Play @ Lower Drayton Farm in Stafford. This is a 40 min drive from me, in mid Cheshire, however its worth the drive as it's a great day out. With a large inside soft play area, animals to see, a cafe with lots of seating, covered outside play equipment like bouncing pillows and sandpits. Plus lots of extra activities during school holidays.

Castaway Play in Congleton. An indoor play area with a different. With 5 zones including a tropical beach, water play, pirate ship, slides and tunnels.








Eureka Science + Discovery in Liverpool. Hundreds of hands on, innovative and interactive activities about the human body, material, the world and nature. There are always extra activities put on during the school holidays too.








Right next door to the Trafford Centre is Play Factore. It's got the biggest play frame in the UK with a massive red wavey slide, which is over 40 meters long. Interactive Trampolines and arcade games. VR games and a go on the Zip Wire can be added on.






Climb 21 colourful walls for an hour at Clip N Climb Stoke. Walls include a timer challenge, wobbly ladders to shimmy up and proper boulder climbing walls which make you feel like you are on a cliff face. Face those fears, while challenging your friends and family. Add a go on the drop slide for even more fun.





27 Colourful Climbing walls, a High Rope Course and Soft Play. All of this can be found at Rock Up Manchester which is Inside Chill Factor at Trafford City. Parent and Toddler sessions, or family sessions available. Perfect inside activity with 60minutes of climbing and a high ropes course.







Wild Tots is a restaurant and play area, aimed at young children and their families as a fun and safe place to spend time together.

It's the perfect place to go to meet friends or to treat your children to after they have been around the shops in Northwich. Grab a coffee, them an ice cream, and let them play for an hour or two.






A bar serving craft beers, with games to play with friends and family including shuffleboard, interactive darts, pool and arcade games. Stonefired pizza and other amazing food being served too.









Prepare for an underwater world full of glittering scales, colourful fins and inquisitive sea turtles. Check out the Turtle Beach show where you'll learn all about their life cycle, then venture into the Rocky Hideout, Shark Shipwreck, Stingray Bay and of course, the magnificent Ocean Tunnel. During school holidays they put on extra events too. Part of the Merlin Pass.





An indoor playground filled with everything Lego.

Lego 4d Movie, 2 rides, Lego Racecar building, Ninjago climbing wall, Lego creative workshops, Soft play for under 5's and over 5's. Plus lots of extra activities during school holidays.






An interactive gallery filled with hands on experiments and puzzles. Extra bookable science workshops during weekends and school holidays. You entry becomes and annual pass. Cafe, outside play ground and free parking.









Interactive science museum in Wrexham. Perfect for a rainy day, it is a fun and educational place to visit. Based within the heart of Wrexham town, is the Xplore! Science Discovery Centre. It is a fantastic inside activity, at just £8.50 per person and you can stay all day. It is a massive room filled with over 100 interactive exhibits






Gamer X in Preston. Over 30,000 square foot of arcade games, virtual reality, giant inflatables, Mario experience, pool tables, table tennis, console games and toddler area.






Tenpin Crewe is an indoor entertainment centre with 25 bowling lanes, a soft play area, a laser tag arena and an escape room. You can book online and enjoy great deals on bowling, soft play, laser tag and escape rooms.







Audley Climbing Centre is a family-friendly indoor climbing centre in Audley, Staffordshire, offering multiple climbing walls, courses, and events for all ages and abilities.









Manchester's Largest Virtual Reality Arcade Experience. They are on a mission to take you and your crew on a journey through incredible worlds in this reality & beyond. Whether it's the terror of a zombie apocalypse, the mystery of the ocean deep, or the secrets of outer space. It is perfect for families, friends, work mates or a date night.






Tech infused adventure golf. No paper score card needed at Putters. Scan in your golf club, and now it knows how many hits you have taken to get that ball in the hole. No cheating or loosing count, with interactive score boards you don't just challenge your friends & family but every one playing that day.




The biggest draw of Urban Playground has got to be their live version of TV gameshow The Cube. It may look easy when you’re watching at home, but once you’re stood inside the perspex box the pressure can make the tasks a lot trickier. Take on 7 games from the original tv series testing out your balance, hand to eye coordination and skills.





Jodrell Bank is a fantastic and educational day out. Learn all about space with hands on experiments inside the Space Pavilion and book on to their Planetarium shows to find out about the big bang and travelling to the stars. They put on extra activities during the school holidays. There is also a walk around the arboretum, a small playground and cafe.






Periwinkle and Clay is a creative studio in Macclesfield, Cheshire. They run Pottery Painting sessions. Choose your pottery from their selection of own made items, choose from 30 colours of paint to create your design, before they are glazed and fired for the perfect crafty keepsake.








Rock Up is a unique indoor FUN CLIMBING arena where adults and kids can enjoy some healthy, action-packed fun! Rock Up centres offer unique rock climbing in a fun and safe environment.

Their individual and multi climber wall challenges and rope courses of varying design and difficulty, will test your agility and courage in different ways.





Museum of Illusions is a visual, sensory, and educational experience designed to engage your sense of wonder and shift your perspective through the science behind optical illusions. It is the first UK location to open and is in the perfect place for North West families as you can find it on Market Street in Manchester. It is the perfect activity for all ages.
