Choosing their pottery

"The whole experience was so nice. Just me and my girls sat quietly painting together. We were chatting and checking on each other progress and it was just so relaxing. I loved my piece of pottery and the girls can't wait to see theirs when we collect them next week"

30 Colours to choose from

It was wonderful to be invited along to Periwinkle and Clay. My girls really do love pottery painting, but it is also an activity I enjoy too, so we were very happy to come along to see this fab new place in Macclesfield.

Periwinkle and Clay has only just opened its doors on 30th March. Having been in a small unit at Capesthorne Hall previously, Claire has now taken on this bigger shop to offer even more pottery painting workshops.

They run two sessions a day for painting a pot. 10am and 1pm. It was raining all day on the day we went so it was so nice to have an inside activity booked.

Periwinkle and Clay Pottery Painting Children's Activity
A great independent activity for 9 year old

We arrived and was welcomed by the lovely Claire in the studio. We were shown the choice of pottery and she explained all about how the paints work, as they look pale now but once glazed and fired the colours become so much brighter and pop out.

My youngest daughter (9) chose a flower shaped plate.

She was very independent in painting her plate. She desided what she wanted to do and even though she changed her mind a few times mid painting she was so happy and proud of her finished piece. She used lots of techniques and was trying different brushes and also had a go using the sponges to create a perfect heart shape.

Perfect activity for older children

My eldest (12) chose a small round dish, she had the idea of using it on her make up table at home for her rings etc.

She painted on a really delicate vine with leaves and flowers circling the plate. As it was a simple design she finished way before me and my other daughter so i let her choose another small item to paint. This time she chose a small hanging square tile. She took inspiration from my painting and produced a lovely beach scene. I was really impressed by the detail and blending of the colours on her piece and cant wait to see what it looks like when fired.

My beach themed jug

After deliberating a while over what to choose to paint i went for a very cute small jug. We had just been on holiday to the beach so i had that theme in my mind.

After a few google image searching for some inspiration i starting painting.

Fine Liners, Sponges and Stencils

Everything we needed was on the table, a large selection of brushes in different sizes. The tray of 30 different colours and our pallet. What i really liked using was the fine liners. These paints where in squeezy pots with a small opening so it was like a pen. I could get really thin and persist lines which made my design look great.

The Studio

The studio is a bright, colourful and an inspirational place with a lovely range of unique pottery pieces to choose from. There are 30 gorgeous colours to paint with as well as a selection of liners, sponges and stencils. The owner has years of tips, tools and experience to share with you.
