Adventure Playground
With a range of things on offer, the adventure playground boasts a wide range of high-spec play equipment for children up to age 11 (although my 12 enjoyed playing on it for over an hour) - including swings, slides and climbing frames, a wheelchair-friendly seesaw and roundabout, and a central ‘Toddler Lake’ area especially for under 5s.
🌟 My girls favourites in the playground had to be the sunken trampoline and the swings.
The play area was opened in summer 23 so a lot of it is still really nice and brightly coloured and in good condition. The only thing that wasn't working was the zip wire which is a shame so hopefully this gets fixed soon. It was built as one of the final parts of a £2.7m redevelopment at the Flash, which has also seen the launch of a new lakeside cafe, a visitor centre and improvements to the toilet and parking facilities.
Walks
It is possible to walk around the lake which is roughly 5km round. However part of it is on roads as the path leads you out of the Nature Reserve. There are a few different paths within the nature reserve you can take to explore the area and see the wildlife such as bird watching and feeding the ducks on the lake. The paths are nice and flat so are suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs, bikes and scooters.
The Hide Coffee House
Serving fresh coffee, breakfast, lunch, cakes and snacks. Dog friendly, with indoor and outdoor seating offering views over the water.
It is great to have such a facility at a Nature Reserve. Personally, I love it when there is a cafe at the end of a walk or near a play ground as it provides the opportunity of a little treat of a cake or an ice cream after some fresh air.
On our first visit we had already had lunch so opted for an ice cream from the ice cream truck parked by the car park. I would love to go back to try out the cafe soon.
Cafe Open 7 days a week:
November to March: 9am - 4pm
April to October: 9am - 7pm.
Facilities
There are toilets near the cafe including accessible toilets.
