The Craft
Needle felting involves using specialised barbed needles to interlock wool fibres and sculpt them into various shapes and designs. It's a meticulous and therapeutic process that requires both skill and imagination.
I was very kindly invited along to do the Needle Felted Landscape Workshop. The class was 2 hours and everything we needed was provided included so many fantastic and interesting types of wool. Merino, corridale, teeswater, blue faced leicester, bergschaf, shetland, sari silk, etc.

My experience
This was my second class so I knew what I was doing but Vicky is always so helpful and patient with everyone whether they are first timers or experienced pros. Vicky explained to us all how to do needle felting, and then we were off, letting our imagination run wild with our creations. I found it very therapeutic and relaxing that you can't really go wrong. If you change your mind on a colour or part of your picture, you can easily pull the wool off and start again.

I created a beach landscape with a lighthouse and waves crashing onto the beach. Other ladies around my table made a wide range of different landscapes and images. The lady next to me made a beautiful sunflower picture which literally popped out of the backing. It was lovely to see how each person had used the same materials but had created a completely different piece of art. This shows how much flexibility and scope there is with needle felting to really let your personality and creative flare go wild.

At my first needle felting class i took my 12 year old daughter too. It is a great craft for children to get in to. Apart from having to be careful with the needle, it is super easy, fun and can be so colourful. Children can create pictures, make patterns and use their imagination to the max.

Vicky was really helpful and friendly. She is really knowledgeable about all the different types of wool and about needle felting so was full of tips and ideas if you need any. She made us feel comfortable and the workshop as a whole was really enjoyable.
A Needle felting workshop would actually make a great alternative to a night out with friends. Get crafting and nattering together. Or would make a fun and different children party too. Get in touch with Vicky if you would like to organize a group booking.
