My Guide of Where to Eat in Barmouth in Wales
My Guide of Where to Eat in Barmouth in Wales

Barmouth has a great mix of places to eat. There are cute little cafes, fancy seafood restaurants, interesting bars and plenty of cosy pubs offering homecooked meals.

Here are some of the places we have visited on our multiple trips to the seaside town and i would recommend all of them from our personal experience.

🦞 The Lobster Pot

The Quay, Barmouth LL42 1HB

We arrived in Barmouth for our May Half Term break and knew exactly where we wanted to go for lunch. After visiting last year we were looking forward to eating at The Lobster Pot.

The restaurant is in a gorgeous setting right on the harbour. There are tables inside, right outside or a few picnic tables over the road which look out over the water, the boats and Barmouth Bridge. We luckily got one of these tables as the views are breathtaking.

I had my heart set on The Lobster Pot's Fish Chowder. Its a bowl full of fresh fish in a creamy sauce served with crusty bread. The chunky pieces of fish were gorgeous and I happily sat in the sun and enjoyed every bit.

My youngest daughter ordered the mussels. This was on a lunch time deal. £12 when 12-2pm midweek. She's only had mussels a couple of times before but they are her absolute favourite so jumped for joy when saw them on the board outside. These were served the traditional way with fries. She really enjoyed them. My eldest daughter got a jacket potato with baked beans and cheese.

My husband ordered a budha bowl which was so colourful with falafel and a mix of salad, vegetables and humus.

The menu is great at The Lobster Pot, with sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, burgers and really interesting fish dishes like dressed crab or seafood linguini. If you're visiting Barmouth I would recommend trying it out. Good food with amazing views.

🍔 The Barmouth Bar & Grill

Church St, Barmouth LL42 1EG

The Barmouth Bar & Grill is a traditional pub sat on the main high street running through Barmouth and is somewhere we have eaten a number of times at.

Both us adults ordered the southern fried chicken burger which came with cheese, bacon, hashbrown and a pepper mayo. The burger was massive and loaded with toppings with fries on the side. We have also had their curry and lasagna on previous visits and all have been very good.

The Children's menu had the classic meal options. My daughter went for tomato pasta. It came with the cheese separate in a pot which is perfect for her as she hates it when its melted on top and 2 large slices of garlic bread ciabatta.

The menu isn't massive but i think there is a good selection, with steaks, chilli, pastas, burgers, and plenty of fish dishes. The prices are a little higher than the average but as the food, portion size and service was good I would definitely recommend having one of your holiday meals here.

🥪Davy Jones Locker

Davy Jones Locker café is located in one of the oldest buildings in Barmouth, dating back to the 15th Century. It is situated on Barmouth's beautiful harbour, with the most fantastic view of Cader Idris across the estuary.

We called in for lunch one day on our holiday, we were lucky to get a seat as its always a busy little place.

The menu is a lot bigger than i thought it would be. Even though the place is like a little tavern in the rocks it serves amazing looking main dishes like pirate burgers, fishcakes and meat platters along side lighter options of bagels, sandwiches and jackets.

I ordered the homemade tomato and basil soup and it was gorgeous. Plus it was amazing value as you got such a big bowl full for just over £6.

We also got the chicken wings and chips, jacket potato and a ham sandwich.

All the food was really nice and it's such an interesting place to stop off at while in Barmouth as has a lot of history.

🍹The Tilman

This pub only serves a daily breakfast and brunch at the weekends so we didn't get a chance to eat here. However we went in for a drink. Its a traditional style pub with both cozy indoor seating plus outdoor seating at the front and back for those sunny days. They have a cocktail deal on Wednesdays, too.

🍔Ted's

This is a really cool and tasty place to try. On the harbour front it serves amazing burgers, loaded fries, tacos, salt & pepper boxes and generally naughty American diner type food. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are good. I had a steak, onion, mushroom and peppercorn sauce sub and struggled to finish it. Between us we got the chicken wings, a children's smash burger and spicy chicken loaded fries.

We enjoyed our visit to Teds so much we actually went back a second time for a last lunch before heading home. This time i got one of their burgers after my daughter said it was so good. I got the spicy chicken burger which came with cripsy chicken tossed in Franks hot sauce, chili cheese bites, lettuce and gerkins. My little girl tried their cauli bites which was really different to anything she has had before and are a great option for a vegetarian. There is alot on the menu that tempted us with its naughty calories and melting cheese but there is also items to suit people being a bit healthy with their Salad Soul bowls.

This place impressed us with fantastic customer service. All the staff were super friendly and attentive. The food is a bit more basic pub grub but portions are really good and its a nice place to relax after a day on the beach.

My daughters ordered a child's sausage and mash and didn't quite finish it as there was loads of mash. My younger daughter got chicken wings with salad and she really enjoyed them.

On the menu there was a massive choice of variations of the classic hunters chicken. From ones with pesto and mozzerella to garlic mushrooms and cheese. I went for the mexican which was smothered in homemade chilli and cheese.

🥧The Last Inn

The Last Inn is one of Wales’ most famous and atmospheric pubs, dating back to the 15th century when it began life as a shoemaker’s home. Now, the retained original features add to the overall and unique appeal of The Last Inn. A firm favourite with local residents and returning tourists so i would really recommend pre booking as after a few visits we are yet to have a meal here. However, we have had many relaxed drinks sat in their characterful bar and the food going past has looked amazing.

🍕Isis Pizzeria

A Pizzeria, making pizzas from scratch with loads of choices for your toppings and amazing views of Barmouth's Harbour. This place is so good we visited twice. Both were evening meals and both times we ordered pizzas. You've got to haven't you, when you are at a Pizzeria I think you should order what their specialty is.

My daughter chose a build your own the first night choosing chicken ham and sweetcorn. The following night I suggested she got one of the special boards pizzas as I'd had one the previous night and it was gorgeous. Chorizo, chicken, sweetcorn and hot honey. The honey really sweetened up the salty chorizo and complimented the other toppings.

The pizzas are 10inch and so fresh and crispy. You know where it bubbles up in the oven! The choices of toppings was great. Over the two night we got the special one with hot honey, a meat feast, a Calabrese and a four seasons.

The children's menu has a good selection including a smaller margarita or pepperoni pizza, scampi, sausages, chicken nuggets or a burger. My youngest went for scampi the first night but then after tasting a bit of our pizza, she shared ours the following night.

If you're not into pizza they also offer breakfast, burgers, lunchtime paninis, wraps. Jacket potatoes, salads and plenty of other options.

There is seating inside but the best views of the water are on their covered outdoor seating. Sitting in a row of other eateries it looks out over the harbour and with Barmouth Bridge in the distance.
