A Brief History of Lymm Dam
Lymm Dam was created in 1824, possibly to provide power for local industries. Over the years, it has transformed into a popular visitor attraction. Today, the area is managed with conservation in mind, ensuring a rich habitat for wildlife and a beautiful outdoor space for visitors.
The Route
There are two main routes you can take around the water. One option leads down a set of steps, along a fishing jetty, and back up another set of steps. However, if you prefer a flatter path that's more suitable for pushchairs, you can bypass this section. Both routes eventually merge, continuing as a circular walk through scenic woodland, across a charming bridge, and alongside the water’s edge.

Pushchair route:
At the car park there is a wooden sign and two paths. Take the path leading straight ahead signposted Crossfield Bridge/ The Bongs
For the route with steps:
At the car park there is a wooden sign and two paths. Take the path leading straight ahead signposted The Dam

The walk is a nice short route of 1.5km. Of course you can make it longer by doing multiple laps, stopping for a coffee or ice cream for the second lap.
The paths are generally flat, wide and solid. If it's been raining i would suggest a more solid walking shoe but otherwise your good to go in simple trainers. The path is pushchair friendly and very easy to navigate. Simply walk around the body of water.

Its a good walk for children as there are a few little paths along the way where they can off shoot from the main path and meet back up. There is a bridge to play pooh sticks, and you can buy duck food from the coffee van and feed them off the dam wall.

Food & Drink
Parked on the dam is a cute coffee van @theavanticoffeecompany where you can get hot drinks, homemade cakes, ciabattas and a bag of duck food.
Parked further along is sometimes an ice cream van which is the perfect treat for little legs after completing their walk or maybe an incentive to get them round.
If you want to combine your walk with a sit down lunch there is a great choice of both cafes and pubs in the centre of Lymm which is only a few minutes walk from the dam through the dingle.
