We were super excited for our first visit to Chester Zoo Lantern and Lights. This year, it has even more animal lantern puppets than ever before, including meerkats, peacocks, red pandas & snow leopards.
It was hard to choose a favourite. The Red Pandas were so cute, and i loved how the puppeteers got the pandas to slide down ramps towards the little excited children at the bottom. However, the colourful Peacocks were absolutely stunning as they glowed in the darkness. But when one of them came over to us and proceeded to peck us, this made my nieces face light up with laughter, making it the highlight of the evening.
As well as all glowing animal puppets, there are all the amazing light installations to wander through, too.
Along the trail you even have the chance to meet Santa. It isn't a grotto but more of a meet and greet and a chance to have a photo and say hello.
Chester Zoo's light trail is in partnership with Sony Music, making this Christmas light trail a seriously well put together event. As you walk through all the different lights, Christmas tunes compliment each display and you find yourself singing along to the songs we all know and love.
We spent a few hours enjoying the lights together & stopping for some food half way round. It really is the perfect family friendly Christmas evening out. What makes it even better is the fact that every ticket supports the conservation zoo’s efforts to protect some of the planet’s most threatened species.
Food & Drink
There was a serious amount of food stalls, serving up a wide selection of food, including bratwurst, burgers, pizza, pie & mash, mulled wine, beer, and hot chocolate. There was lots of seating and we were pleased to see you could also sit inside as they were using the seating in the normal Chester zoo restaurant. We were missing somewhere selling chips as my nieces was after these but everywhere served tatter tots instead. To be fair a kids burger with tatter tots did go down well and it was a good size for £9.50.
At the start/end there was also some traditional fairground rides. These were more suited for younger children and really added to to whole ambience and feel of the event.
