Hockerhill Adventure Play Barn
Hockerhill Adventure Play Barn

Hockerhill is an all-weather adventure playground designed to challenge, entertain and inspire children. At the heart of the barn, is their awe-inspiring great oak which will inspire children to reach and climb. Surrounding it are swings, slides, towers, bridges, walkways and tunnels. A great place to play hide and seek and burn some energy.

We were kindly invited along for the girls to test run the Brand New Hockerhill Adventure Play Barn in Staffordshire.

This new play area is a fabulous mixture of both indoor and outdoor play. They are even interconnected with a cool go kart track where you drive from inside to outside and back in again.

Think of adventure play rather than soft play as the structure is all wooden with slides, bridges and nets and you keep your shoes on.

The wood structure has been created by the same people who designed Bewilderwood. It has that rustic style to it but while looking fab as all lovely and new.

At the heart of the barn, there is a great oak tree. You climb up inside the tree and then go down one of the fastest slides I've ever been on! Surrounding it are swings, slides, towers, bridges, walkways and tunnels.

My girls loved the design, it had so many nooks and crannies to hide in so we played multiple games of hide and seek during the 3 hours we spent there.

Hockerhill Adventure Play Barn draws inspiration from the estate's rich history with a magnificent mock oak tree, reminiscent of the one where King Charles II sought refuge during the Battle of Worcester.

The pedal go karts which goes between the outside and inside was a really cool and fun feature of the play area.

The girls were zooming around a winding tarmac track, testing their driving skills as they actually went quite fast.

Outside Area

The wooden climbing frame lead into the outside area. With more slides and tunnels. There was a pair of racing zipwires which again my girls really enjoyed. These were built really well and went nice and fast. A little hard to tack back to the start but we did it as a team and passes each other the seat. It was really good that they also had a toddler zip wire with a seat like a toddlers swing.

Toddler Area

Little Acorns is for 1-5 year olds. It has a smaller climbing frame and slide with a cool chalk board. This is hidden in a corner so the bigger kids werent in it at all which is great for toddlers.

🥪Food & Drinks

The menu certainly impressed me, especially for one that is at a play area.

The cafe has a good breakfast menu serving up some really yummy items. Smashed avocado on toast, scrambled egg & smoked salmon or pancakes aswel as a classic full english.

For lunch you can order a woodfired pizza, burgers and salads. There is a good selection of sandwiches including steak ciabatta, a club and some interesting panini options. There is also a big selection of pastries, cakes and drinks on offer.

Children's menu

👶They have a separate children's menu.

It has a small breakfast or pancakes for the morning and then for lunch there is a large choice between hot mains such as cod, grilled chicken or some different pastas. There are even little pizzas for the kids or their own toasted sandwich. Aswel as the keeping it simple classkc option of a little sandwich box where you choose 5 items.

The prices were about right. Some of the childrens items were really cheap which is great when you don't know how much they will eat as too busy playing.

What we ordered:

Mum - Club sandwich

Dad - Ham ciabatta

Big daughter - adult margarita pizza

Small daughter - kids grilled chicken, chips & corn

The food was really good. Especially my club, it had plenty of chicken in and I really enjoyed it. The girls cleared their plates so was a hit all round.

🌟 Please note you cant bring in your own food.

Our verdict

We loved the design of the place and it was much more suited for older children that alot of inside play areas. My 12 year old didn't look or feel too old.

The food available was really nice and everywhere was so nice and clean and new.

We spent 3 hours there. We could have spent longer if we had gone with friends. It isnt a massive place so i wouldnt say its a full day. More like a morning or afternoon. Hockerhill suggest 2 hour time slots but this isnt strict.

The price for children is reasonable. However £8 for adults may price some people out especially as most adults were just sat watching. I would definitely go again though and bring some friends along.
