Situated in the historic village of Dunham Massey, Altrincham is
Dunham Massey Ice Cream Farm.
The ice cream parlour and cafe is within a converted red brick barn with its distinctive bright "Dunham red" paint on its drainpipes, doors and guttering. It is just down the road from the Dunham Massey National Trust site, and is the perfect place to call in at while walking the Lymm Railway Trail. Their delicious ice cream is hand-made on the farm by Dianne, who designed the recipe herself.

We called into the Ice Cream Farm when we were on a walk along the Lymm Railway part of the Transpennine Trail. Dunham Ice Cream Farm is only a 5-10 min walk off the trail so it makes the perfect place to call into on your walk. Walking to get an ice cream treat is a great way to encourage children on a walk. The Lymm Railway Line is perfect for scooters and bikes too so makes a lovely family friendly walk with a cafe to visit.
Dunham Massey Ice Cream farm has a fridge full of amazing and original flavours of ice cream. Once, we visited, they had their Sunflower Trail on, so they had a yummy sunflower flavour ice cream. It was a gorgeous custard ice cream with roasted sunflower seeds in. You can choose to have your ice cream in a few different cones, including a gluten free option or a tub.
If you're after some lunch they also serve hot food options, including freshly made pizzas and toasties. Then finish off with a coffee, flavoured hot chocolate, or a cheeky cake. If you would like to take some ice cream home, they sell 1 litre tubs.

Throughout the year, they hold events in one of their fields next to the barn. Such as:

We have been to both their Sunflower Trail and Pumpkin patch which are always a lovely little activity to do with children. The sunflower trail had a scavenger hunt which included a sheet with characters you had to find within the maze of sunflowers. Plus lots of information about sunflowers which is a nice educational extra. You could also pick some sunflowers from a different field to take home. There are always lots of cute characters, photo frames to pose in and other photo ops at their events.
"Vintage Angel Home & Gift"
Inside the cafe there is also a lovely boutique shop "Vintage Angel Home & Gift" selling beautiful gifts, jewellery, decorations for the home and garden and things you just want to buy as so lovely. We bought a sunflower head garland which would be fab as some festival wear. The gift shop is ran by Pamela Macauley who has been a resident of Dunham Town for over 25 years.
Seating
There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Outside, there are picnic tables so you can sit in the sun in the summer but they also have a very large tipi style tent, which is decorated with twinkly lights and flowers with a heater in the middle for wetter or colder days. Inside the actual cafe you will find a mix of comfy sofas, American diner style booths and long wooden benches to sit at.
Animals
Meet the animals including goats, sheep and an emu just outside the cafe. You can buy food for them for 50p too.
