We enjoyed our day at Cockfields Farm Park this April. Their Spring Fling Event was a back to basics event with everything to do with animals and working a farm. Cockfields farm is open all year round with special events on during school holidays, but is also a lovely day out during the normal week for Younger than school aged children and at weekends.
The Animals
There are so many animals on the farm. There are Alpacas, goats, sheep, cows, horses and meerkats to look at and you can buy bags of food (£1.80) to feed some of them. With plenty of time slots throughout the day to have a closer look and meet some of the other animals.
Cuddle the Bunnies & Guinea Pigs in Cuddle Corner
Groom The Donkeys and Ponies
Stroke the Lizards, Snakes and Tortoises
Feed the Meerkats and Reindeer
Meet the Bugs & Creepy Crawlies, Naked Rats and Boris the Hedgehog.
Hand Feed the Cows, Llamas, Alpacas, Goats & Sheep in Animal Barn
We loved seeing the animals, the guinea pigs, rabbits chicks and ducklings in Cuddle Corner were so cute. You could brush the rabbit and guinea pigs coats with a brush as they sat on a raised table. Plus the girls got a chance to hold both a chick and duckling 9 watch out they don't go to the toilet on you, but even if they do there is paper towels and hand washing facilities. Each animal comes out for 30minutes, taking it turns through out the day. the list of times are on a big board outside so this was really handy to plan our day to make sure we caught every session for the animals.
As a special Spring Fling activity the girls got to bottle feed lambs. there were so many cute lambs all in a pen and the children stood around the outside ready to feed them. The staff were really clear with instructions of ho to make sure no air bubbles got into the lambs tummies and about how important it was to wash our hands afterwards.
We enjoyed this activity so much we did both sessions that were on throughout the day.
We spent ages in the Animal Barn feeding the goats, donkeys and cows the food we bought. The baby goats were really gentle taking the food from our hands and the cows were very happy to get a head scratch from us.
The Reptile Encounters are really fun to do. On our most recent visit during "Spring Fling" in April the girls got to hold and snake and a lizard and met their large tortoise. As it was quite they got to have a really long hold and we spoke to the staff for ages, asking lots of questions and finding out lots about the animals we met.
Play Areas
There is a outside play area which includes swings, slides, spinners, rockers, and climbing frames. There is also a large Bouncing Pillow and outdoor sand & water play area. If the weather has been wet i would definitely suggest wearing wellies or good solid shoes as the play area can get wet as on grass. Inside there is a bouncy castle, children can play on this while an adult can grab a drink from the cafe and have a bit of a sit down. There are a few other toys in this area, but they are at an extra cost. The go karts are £2 a go and there is a Pig Bucking Bronco for £1.50.
Fairground Carousel
you can have unlimited rides on the fairground carousel, this is only a small ride suitable for up to about10 years, but is really cute and perfect for smaller children.
Farmer Role Play
This inside play area is where children can have a go at being a farmer. There are different areas with pretend farm animals with a challenge to complete. Collect the eggs from the chickens, help a cow give birth, wash the pig, groom the highland cow and sheer the sheep.
This is perfect for young children to have a go and really encourages imaginative play.
Duck Pond and Nature Walk
There’s a path around the duck pond so you can walk around it to look at the ducks. One way round the path you can follow a song about ducks and the other there’s facts about ducks to read.
Cuddle Corner
This space is great, this is where the Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chicks and Duckling stay. At times through out the day they are put out on to the tables so you can brush or handle them.
Tractor Ride
This in included in your visit and you can go on as many time as you like during the day. We always enjoy this, the trailer is a nice big one with a roof so is great for all weather conditions. It takes you around the fields of the farm so you can see the sheep and alpacas.
Food & Drinks
There is an inside café, open from 10 am to 4 pm daily. Which has a good lunch menu for both adults and children. Plus drinks and cakes, there is even a separate display of homemade gluten free cakes. Plus head outside to get an extra treat from the Shepard Hut which makes fresh donuts and serves Mr. whippy ice cream.
You are also allowed to bring a picnic, and they have dedicated indoor and outdoor picnic areas available.

Cockfields Farm Special Events
During the school holidays the farm goes all out putting on special themed events. These are always done fantastically well and well worth the extra price you pay for these events.
Some examples of their extra events:
Spring Fling at Easter
Digger Dance May Bank Holiday
Wild West at May Half Term
Farmlife Festival in Summer
Monster Trucks in September
Pumpkin Patch in October
Fireworks on the Farm
Christmas at Cockfields
Our Final Verdict
The whole place is well looked after and tidy especially with the fact it's a working farm. There are lots of photo opportunities with a giant chair & photo frames. The staff are fab, you can ask them questions about the animals and they are all really knowledgeable as they spend most of their time looking after the animals even when customers are not there. It is really nice to be able to see all the different animals Cockfields Farm has and the close encounter experiences make it really interesting and more hands on.
What makes Cockfields even better is their extra events they put on during the school holidays. These do normally come with a higher ticket price but they do put a lot more activities on for these. I've been to their Easter Hunt event in 2023 and I have seen great reviews of their Christmas Experience.
