🐄 Chatsworth have a ticket option to just visit their brand new children's adventure playground and farmyard which we booked to do during the summer holidays.

This is a great day out for all the family and pretty reasonably priced as tickets start from £8 pp and we spent all day there. The farm has a cafe or you can bring a picnic from home. There are animal handling sessions, milk demonstrations & horse grooming on the farm throughout the day.

Adventure Playground

Enter the playground by crawling through the secret tunnel from the farmyard. Don't worry parents, you can simple walk around and up the steps if you're not wanting to crawl on your hands and knees!

This playground is beautifully designed with children in mind. The woodland adventure playground includes climbing towers, racing slides, a zip wire, and just loads to climb on and explore. Plus the rest of the children's play area has a lovely sand and water play, with swings, a few different small climbing frames and swings.

There is an wooden woodpecker you can climb up inside which has become a bit of a iconic symbol of the playground.

Amazingly fast slides

I joined in with my girls playing on the adventure playground, and i can report back it is loads of fun and the slides are super fast. There are 4 slides, one being 12 meters long! At the top of the towers you get a bird's eye view of the play area, as if you are in the tree tops. And make sure you have a go using the "Flower phones" to chat to each other from different towers.

Down at the sandpit, my daughter and her cousin were enjoying playing in the stream. They had rejected their shoes and sock and were now stood in the shallow stream using the Archimedes screw to fetch up the water. This kept them busy for so long and it was almost impossible to get them to come away to catch one of the animal handling sessions.

Pigs on the farm

The Farmyard

The farmyard has been open for families to visit since 1973. You’re able to feed, pet and handle some of the adorable livestock. From Old Spot pigs and Shire horses to goats, chickens and guinea pigs – you can even meet Eugenie the rare breed Suffolk Punch mare.

The farmyard offers an entertaining and educational insight into the British livestock farming industry and farming across the estate. There are several small animal-handling sessions each day and a cow milking demonstrations. We watched a goat being milked by hand , and it was fascinating to learn about what amazing properties goats milk actually has. Goat-milking demonstration takes place from late May to October.

Food & Drink

If you want to buy lunch, a snack or drink, the farm has its own small cafe. It had a fridge full of sandwiches and some hot food options too. There is inside seating or you can take it back out to the play area. The gift shop also has a freezer of ice creams and usually quieter than the cafe so a good tip is to get your ice cream treats from there.

Chatsworth House

On a visit to the whole site you can learn the history of this great Derbyshire country house and explore over 25 grand rooms. Outside, the 105-acre garden is home to an arboretum, a rock garden, modern waterworks, and so much more – making it one of the Midlands’ most beautiful hidden gems.
