Astbury Mere Country Park
Described as the ‘Jewel in Congleton’s Crown’ Astbury Mere Country Park is a beautiful area for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors to the historic market town of Congleton.
Astbury Mere is perfect for a nice and easy walk. The circular path around the lake is flat and well surfaced. As you walk, you can see the lake through the trees, and you can spot the occasional fishing deck.

Halfway round, you come to a Peak Pursuits site "Astbury Watersports Centre. This is a great addition to Astbury Mere, and we have personally used it for multiple activities. They run instructed sessions, paddle club, school holiday clubs, homeschool days, and parties. You can also hire equipment such a Paddle Boards, kayaks, and Canoes for their "have a go" sessions.

Congleton parkrun
Astbury Mere is also the location of a weekly Parkrun, which takes place every Saturday at 9 am. I love to run, and this is a great Parkrun to attend. The volunteers are always so friendly, and all the runners are so supportive to each other and welcome newbies with welcome arms. The Parkrun is 3 laps around the lake, and with its nice flat paths, it is a really enjoyable run. Plus there is a cafe for a treat afterwards.
The Country Park is open from 9:00 until dusk every day of the year, except Christmas Day. Admission is free of charge.
Parking
Car parking is 60p for up to 2 hours or £1:50 for longer, with no overnight parking. Every penny raised goes towards the improvement of the country park. You can also click here to buy annual parking permits for £35.
