While visiting Alton Towers in October 2024 for Scarefest we decided to make it a more memorable adventure and book an over night stay at the Alton Towers Hotel.
Overall Opinion
We loved our stay in Alton Towers hotel. It definitely was a lot better than i thought it was going to be. So much evening entertainment, it almost makes you want to leave the theme park to get back to the hotel earlier!!! The seating in the social area was perfect, we enjoyed relaxing with a drink and listening to live music so really enjoyed this part of our stay. The food in the restaurant for our evening meal really exceeded my expectations. Even though it ended up quite a pricey meal we all really enjoyed our food and the staff were really attentive and friendly. The room was great, clean, bright and fun and for a family of 4 with slightly older children it worked really well. I would definitely recommend a stay at the hotel and would love to stay again.
The Room - Moon Voyage Room
We stayed in the family room "Moon Voyager". It was a great size and layout for a family of 4. The girls had bunkbed around the corner so everyone had privacy. The girls even had their own tv to watch. Our bed was a double and really comfy. The room was brightly decorated and was nice and clean. There was the usual coffee making facilities, a fridge and wardrobe. The girls made good use of the little dressing table for putting their make up on and they loved the massive bear that was sat on our double bed.

The Alton Towers Hotel
The hotel has great facilities and i was surprised to see so much evening entertainment. The fact you could watch live music for most of the evening in the Alton Towers hotel or walkover to Splash Landings hotel via an inside walkway to more child friendly entertainment including discos, family quiz, magic show and Storytime was fantastic. In our hotel was a grand central staircase, sat at the bottom was a massive wooden pirate ship with its sails climbing all the way up to the ceiling. This was rather breath taking and the girls loved how magical it made the hotel feel. Comfy sofas and cozy corners surrounded the ship so you could get a drink from the bar and then sit and relax. Our girls brought down the Alton Towers activity books they found on their beds to do while we had a drink before dinner. It had a great atmosphere and we could have easily of sat there all night.
Expedition Coffee Stop
Open 8am - 10pm
Just off the grand staircase is a coffee lounge. It serves Costa coffee and was like a full on cafe. It had sandwiches, cakes, drinks and snacks. It was open at 8am so you could get a nice coffee while you waited to check out or before you head over to the park. Or a place to get a snack if you don't want to rush back from the park for a sit down evening meal.
The Restaurant - The Secret Garden
Dinner 5-10pm
We booked to eat in "The Secret Garden" restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised at quality of the food. There is a good choice of food on the menu for both children and adults. Yes the prices are a bit top end but the quality, service and taste of the meals reflected this as everything we ordered was fantastic. The Children's menu is priced per course so you can have just a main or all 3 courses. My 10 year was pleased to see some of her favourites including dough balls, pasta and chocolate brownie. My 13 year old ordered from the children's menu for starter but then had an adult starter of chicken wings for her main and an adults rather naughty looking cheesecake.
Me and my husband got the Secret Garden beef burger and a cauliflower steak which were both really good.
⭐ Top Tip
Make sure you book your breakfast and evening meal well in advance. We booked them the day before online but slot of the times were gone so i would recommend doing this a good few days before
The Breakfast
Served between 7:30am and 10.15am
We had pre booked our breakfast slot. 7am was the only slot left when we went to do it, so some of us were a little fuzzy eyed as so early but it actually helped with the day as we were up, eaten and ready for the park for 8.30 so went to queue up to get in for 9am!
The breakfast is a buffet, help yourself style. It had all the standard items including a cooked breakfast area, cereals, pancakes, juices, muffins and a few bits of fruit. Obviously, you can fill your boots as its all you can eat and it does set you up for a busy day in the park. If i was to improve it, it could have been a little more fancier and maybe a bit more choice on healthy options. Only 2 fruits and the only yoghurt was a thick natural yoghurt. My girls always enjoying getting lots of different fruits at a hotel breakfast, although they did seem happy enough with their pile of muffins, watermelon and pain au chocolates.
Parking
When staying at the hotel you get free parking. Which is normally £10 when visiting for the day. You park by the hotel and access the park via an entrance just for hotel guests by Galantica. This is a much shorter walk of only 5 mins rather than the usual 20 to the main entrance. You have to show your hotel booking to use this entrance as well as your day tickets. You also have to show your hotel booking to exit the carpark so the staff know that you don't have to pay for parking.
